Job Overview

Vapor IO is seeking an SRE to help build and maintain systems dedicated to supporting its next generation carrier network built for future 5G and mobile edge computing workloads at massive scale. The candidate should expect and thrive in a highly dynamic environment on a small team whose responsibilities will range from network design to implementation, operations, and support. 

Prior experience in a large backbone carrier, internet service provider, or mobile network is highly preferred. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Collaborating with network architects and engineers to design and implement and maintain the Kinetic Edge network
  • Designs, analyzes, installs, tests, configures, and administers network infrastructure, and applications as well as providing a full range of testing, administration, and quality checks.
  • Identifies need and implements system monitoring, corrective action, system refreshes, hardware replacements, software upgrades, and application modifications
  • Contribute in creating process, policy and troubleshooting documentation according to company standards.
  • Expert level background in supporting linux based server fleets both on premises and in the public cloud (AWS and GCP)
  • Expert level knowledge of version control and CI/CD methodology
  • Expert level knowledge in time series databases and data visualization tools such as InfluxDB, Prometheus, and Grafana
  • Expert level knowledge in modern and legacy network monitoring protocols such as SNMP, various streaming telemetry methods, etc
  • Expert level knowledge of open source network monitoring tools such as Nagios, LibreNMS, etc
  • Expert level knowledge of open source automation and orchestration for management of a heterogeneous network environment such as SALT, NAPALM, Ansible, and Puppet
  • Strong knowledge of third party, commercial network monitoring services such as ThousandEyes, Catchpoint, Kentik, etc
  • Expert level Python background
  • Strong familiarity with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VXLAN/EVPN, and MPLS
  • Familiarity with Netflow and sFlow
  • Familiarity with DCIM and IPAM 
  • Strong background with Docker and Kubernetes 
  • Ability to coach and educate internally on best practices

 

Qualifications
